I’m one of those people who decorates for every holiday and special occasion. As you can imagine, I have quite the collection of holiday lights. I have strings and strings of lights in every color and in multiple designs.

Thanks to Philips Hue, my holidays are going to be a lot easier this year.

Philips Hue is like something you would see in a futuristic film. I can’t believe we have access to this kind of incredible technology.

These lights are game changers. You can literally control the color, brightness and timing of your lights with the free iOS and Android compatible app. It is so space age and so cool.

Philips Hue Overview

This lighting system is really versatile. You can use it in so many different ways. You can create mood lighting or set brightness levels for reading, relaxing and any other type of activity.

You can easily use preset light configurations or access more than 16 million colors to design your own preferences. I love that you can use your favorite photos to choose color schemes.

Philips Hue even offers several different shades of white.  You can choose from settings like relaxed and/or energized.

Also, you can program the lights to accommodate your schedule. You can set a sunrise in the morning, light up your porch at night and even utilize movie night settings.

Philips Hue White and Ambiance Starter Kit

The Philips Hue Starter Kit features three A19 light bulbs that are 800 lumen. These light bulbs allow you to turn any fixture into a programmable hue device.

Setting up the starter kit is super simple. Just switch out the light bulbs in an existing fixture. Plug in the Hue bridge and connect it to your Wi-Fi router with the network cable. Next, download the app from the App Store or Google Play and follow the on screen instructions.

When the app finds the bridge, push the center button to grant it access to control the system.

You can then use the app to locate the bulbs or add new lights (like the Hue Go Portable Light). You can connect multiple tech devices to the bridge at the same time, such as your phone or tablet, so you can control the lights with whichever device is in your hands at the time.

Philips Hue Go Portable Light

The Philips Hue Go Portable Light is the ultimate in portable lighting. This wire free smart light has three hours of rechargeable battery life and can withstand humidity.

There are so many uses for this innovative light. You can use it as a night light, an outdoor light or to provide lighting in an otherwise dark space.

It can also wake you up each morning. The deep dimming feature gradually increases the intensity of the light to emulate sunlight.

This portable light features five patented “natural dynamic effects,” which include Cozy Candle, Sunday Coffee, Meditation, Enchanted Forest and Night Adventure. These can be accessed by a simple press of the button on Philips Hue Go.

Using the app, you can control the lights. We chose to use the green color in the handprint art below.

As you can see, the green light matches the hue from the handprint. This light reflected onto the wall and created a really neat effect.

I decided to give the light a fun look for Halloween. I simply cut a circle and pumpkin face out of black construction paper and put it on the light with a piece of tape.

Philips Hue and the Netgear® Nighthawk™ DST Router and DST Adapter have turned my home into a lighting showplace. My entire family loves interacting with the lights. Even my six-year-old daughter changes the lighting with her iPad.
