I received the Boxcar Children DVD and set of books to facilitate this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Boxcar Children books are perfect for young readers. Not only are the full of plenty of adventure, but they are so engaging, your kids will look forward to reading each book in the series.
This classic series was written by Gertrude Chandler Warner. What started as a single book release in the early 1900s, has turned into a series that has surpassed the test of time. Books have been released throughout the 1900s and into our current time!
The books follow the Alden children. Henry, Jessie, Violet and Benny are orphans who set up a home inside an abandoned boxcar in the forest.
When the children finally meet their grandfather, they are in for a big change. Luckily, he is a very kind man who moves their boxcar to his backyard. By doing so, the kids are able to use it as a playhouse.
Since it is back-to-school time, I wanted to point out an amazing resource. On the Boxcar Children web site, you can print out a curriculum and activities related to the first set of books! Whether you are a teacher, homeschooler or parent who wants to work with your child to enhance reading skills, you can access the information at boxcarchildren.com

Every Boxcar Children fan will be excited to learn that you can now watch one of the classic tales on Blu-Ray and DVD! Surprise Island is an animated film that is entertaining for the entire family!
Boxcar Children Surprise Island is based on the second book from the classic series. It is so much fun to see the characters come to life on the big screen! Now that the Alden children live with their grandfather, their lives have changed a lot.
When they find out they will be taking a trip, they are amazed to learn they will be spending the summer on a private island. Once on the island, they meet a new friend who may have a big secret!
