Ultimate Sweet Potato Casserole Alternative

ByJessica Wellington 2 Comments November 5, 2013

Sometimes for Thanksgiving, I want to do something outside of the box. Sure, I could make a sweet potato casserole and satisfy my guests. However, I want to change things up and do something a little unexpected.

Up until about 10 years ago, I wouldn’t touch a sweet potato. I just didn’t like them. One Thanksgiving, however, I decided to try a bite of sweet potato casserole. For some reason, I was hooked. Now, I eat them all the time.

If you’ve ever cooked a Thanksgiving meal, you know it is a ton of work. This year, instead of spending time preparing a sweet potato casserole, try serving each guest his/her own baked sweet potato. It is an incredibly easy and fun Thanksgiving side dish.

You bake the sweet potatoes and serve them with butter, brown sugar, and/or nuts. Now, here comes my favorite part. Top each potato with a handful of marshmallows.

Get out your creme brulee torch (you know the one you bought a couple of years ago and never used) and toast the marshmallows. If you are feeling brave and charitable, you can let your guests torch their own marshmallows. My husband is kind of stingy with his torch, but it is Thanksgiving after all.

Serve immediately. These sweet potatoes will be a crowd pleaser. None of your guests will miss that boring casserole. What is your favorite way to serve sweet potatoes?

That is a super-cute and simple alternative to doing a sweet potato casserole. I also think my kids will love it. Popping over from Blog Hop Social.

Awesome! My daughter will pretty much eat anything with marshmallows on it. She loves these potatoes. Thanks for stopping by!
