A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas Review

ByJessica Wellington 1 Comment December 12, 2019

I was given the opportunity to view A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas to facilitate this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Christmas is right around the corner. I can’t think of a better way to get into the holiday spirit than spending an evening at the Alley Theatre watching A Christmas Carol.

A Christmas Carol

Before I saw the show, I had no idea what to expect from the performance. I’ve heard that it is a spooky retelling of the old Christmas classic, which is somewhat true. However, it also keeps perfectly in line with the classic tale by Charles Dickens.

This show has it all from hilarious moments, somewhat spooky scenes and plenty of holiday cheer! We loved it. I can only imagine that we will return to watch it again and again. It is a great tradition to start with your family.

From the fantastic sets to the authentic-looking period costumes, this show exceeded all of my expectations. The talented actors are amazing and really bring the tale to life. However, the lighting is what really caught our attention. Yes, I really said lighting. The incredible lighting is used to change scenes and add special effects. It really transports the audience to different points in time in an extraordinary way. I’ve never experienced anything like it.

Directed by James Black, this show is geared toward families. We were all glued to our seats as we watched the story about Ebeneezer Scrooge unfold on stage. During this performance, I was sorry when it was time for intermission. I didn’t want the performance to end (even if it was only for a short break) because I was really enjoying it.

I encourage you to arrive early before the show to check out the Deck the Trees Celebration. You can enjoy viewing a wide variety of Christmas trees in the lobby, which has been transformed into a magical winter wonderland. This was an unexpected surprise! We loved looking at all of the trees. You will be amazed at the creativity leading Houston designers put into creating themed Christmas trees.
