Cast Iron Deep Dish Pizza

ByJessica Wellington 4 Comments April 10, 2012

I think everything tastes better in a cast iron pan. Don’t you?

Well, pizza is no exception. This recipe makes the best deep dish pizza. I know your family will love this super easy meal.

You can make this pizza with a homemade pizza dough recipe. However, the boxed bread dough mix works really well in this recipe. Plus, it makes for way easier meal prep.

Cast Iron Deep Dish Pizza Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Homemade pizza dough or one box of Krusteaz Sourdough Bread Mix (or any other boxed bread mix)-make according to instructions.
  • 1/2 tsp. oil
  • Cast iron pan
  • Pizza toppings

Instructions:

  • Use the oil to grease a large cast iron pan and put the dough in it.
  • Layer toppings by putting cheese first, sauce and then additional toppings. (My favorite pizza trick involves microwaving the pepperoni for 35 seconds between two paper towels and then putting on the pizza.)
  • Put pizza into a cold oven. Turn the oven to 475. Once this temperature is reached, turn it to 375 and cook for 30-35 minutes.

Here is the finished product. It tastes as incredible as it looks in the picture.

This creates the perfect crunchy, chewy deep dish pizza. I love using sourdough because it gives the pizza crust extra flavor.

Oh my yummy for my tummy! I should never have read this before dinner with an empty stomach and refrigerator and a husband on his way home. He's walking into a trap of hunger and will have to think quick on his feet. I'm filing this away for tomorrow night's dinner. It looks divine! Thanks so much for sharing!

    Happy seeing beautiful!

I’ve never seen a pizza you put cheese on before the sauce. Does that really work? It looks amazing, going to give it a try!

Yes, this pizza is so delicious! The cheese helps the crust not get soggy. Thanks for your comment!
