Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Edition

ByJessica Wellington Leave a Comment December 22, 2013

mary poppinsI received a copy of Mary Poppins to facilitate this review. All writing and opinions are my own.

Mary Poppins, starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke,  is a fun-filled family movie. It is the ultimate childhood classic. Not only is it filled with catchy songs, colorful scenes and witty characters, the film will leave you on a positive note. This movie can put anyone in a good mood.

As a child, I absolutely, positively loved this movie. My sisters and I watched it over and over again. We danced, sang and rewatched certain scenes trying to figure out how Mary Poppins was able to accomplish her magic on screen. As a mom, my favorite thing about Mary Poppins is how she gets the children to take their medicine. Of course, she has a totally fun way of getting them to take their dreaded medicine and a fun song to go along with it.

I also love that the film features animated scenes. This adds to the overall fun of the movie. I really love the scene featuring carousel horses. In true Mary Poppins fashion, they don’t just ride a carousel, but the horses gallop off of the carousel and take them through the woods.

Even though the film features a wide variety of memorable experiences, the most iconic is a single word, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” When I was younger, my friends and I used to love trying to spell that word. See the below clip for the catchy tune featuring this funny word.

I loved watching this movie with my daughter. I enjoyed seeing her reactions to this fun-filled movie. She is already singing a lot of the songs and wants to watch the film again. Not only is this amazing movie available now on Blu-ray Combo Pack and HD Digital, it features all new digital restoration.

It also features fun bonus features including:

Mary-OKE: Allows viewers to join in on the musical fun by singing along to animated words that are uniquely displayed on the screen.

Becoming Mr. Sherman: Actor Jason Schwartzman sits down for a fun, musical afternoon with Richard Sherman. In the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks, Schwartzman plays the Disney legend, who is half of the famous composing team of brothers who wrote the iconic music for Mary Poppins and many other favorite films. You will also get a sneak peak into the film, Saving Mr. Banks, which stars Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson.
