Beneficial Nematodes

ByJessica Wellington 3 Comments August 23, 2012

beneficial nematodes, arbico

Don’t let the appearance of these containers fool you. These little unassuming containers from Arbico contain a powerhouse blend of beneficial nematodes. It is how I keep my yard free from harmful bugs like ants and fleas without the use of chemicals. You can get the variety of nematodes that work best in your yard based on your geographic location. When I first found out about nematodes, about 10 years ago, I was skeptical. However, I have to say that they are very effective in controlling bugs. Since I have a golden retriever and two cats, these nematodes have been the sole reason my yard is flea free. I like that I dont have to treat my animals with flea repellant products.

The Arbico Web site has all sorts of information about what kinds of bugs the nematodes will control. I know you can order them from a variety of vendors, but I’ve always gotten mine from Arbico. They ship relatively quickly and the company is very helpful in responding to issues and questions. You apply the nematodes by mixing them with water and spraying them on your yard. By the way, this isn’t an advertisement, I am just a big fan of this product.

Interesting. I'll have to ask my husband if he's heard of those.

I expected to have an over abundance of fleas this year so I bought flea meds for our black lab but we didn't end up with any. I guess the heat and drought took care of them. Glad about that but sorry about that money I wasted.

Anyway, thanks for sharing. We'll check that out.

I think they do work on ticks. The company’s Web site has a lot of information about the types of bugs nematodes eradicate. They also have a great customer service line. I’ve had to call them a couple of times and they’ve always been really helpful.
