Imagine that you are 007, getting briefed by Q on how to use the latest gadgets. To participate in your briefing, all of you have to do is head to your local Best Buy store, which is offering a wide-variety of free services through Geek Squad’s Solution Central.
I attended one of the technology briefing classes. It all started with a quick trip to this Geek Squad site. I found a class I was interested in and scheduled an appointment at my local store.
Since I’m currently using a Mac, I wanted to learn all about the new version of Windows. As a result, I signed up for the Windows 8 Technology Briefing Class. The sign up process was very simple. I got a confirmation email and waited until the date of my class.
When I entered Best Buy, I went to Solution Central, which is prominently located in the center of the store. This area is operated by Geek Squad Technology Education Agents (TEAs). These staff members are pretty easy to identify because they wear white button up shirts and black ties.
When I reached Solution Central, I was impressed with the teaching area. It had two flat screen televisions and plenty of seating. My particular class was small in size. Only one other couple joined me for the session. The friendly TEA, Zuleyma, welcomed us and began to tell us about Windows 8.
She handed out a pamphlet that outlined the class and even extra paper for notes. As she demonstrated the operating system on her PC, we could see what she was doing on the large display screens.
During the presentation, we were given the opportunity to ask questions. The TEA also assisted the other class members with setting up a Windows 8 account.
Overall, it was a very informative, enjoyable experience. I didn’t find the class boring at all. I now feel comfortable using Windows 8.
Currently, the store offers three types of free learning opportunities. These include walk out working sessions to set up new electronic purchases items, one on one consultations to cover any customer questions and technology debriefing classes that span a broad range of topics.
