I received the Captain Marvel DVD to facilitate this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Captain Marvel is a great mix of comedy and action. It was nice to see some more from Nick Fury and Phil Coulson who have been out of the main focus on the big screen (or small screen at my home) in the past few years.
This film provides more background on the galactic picture and how earth fits into the universe. I now understand the post credit scene of Avengers: Infinity War!
During this epic adventure, we learn about the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. When a galactic war between two alien races reaches earth, Danvers and a small group of allies find themselves in the middle of the battle.
For the more “experienced” of us, this 1990s-era super hero adventure brings back fond memories of our earlier days with many pop culture references. This did inspire several educational lessons for my young daughter. So, I had to dust off some classics to bring her up to speed.
It was great to see that the past can still entertain kids today. After watching the movie, my favorite question from my daughter was about Blockbusters. When I told her we used to rent movies at a store, she then asked why we didn’t just stream them. We’ve definitely come a long way since those days!
My daughter’s favorite part of the film was when Captain Marvel goes up against the bad guys and they realize they are in big trouble. One of her other favorite moments is when Captain Marvel changes her outfit with a few clicks of a display. As a result, my daughter had visions of changing pajamas to school clothes with the click of a button!
It is important to note that Captain Marvel is the second to last of the original Marvel movie series arc (part of Phase 3.) If you have not seen Avengers: End Game, then I would highly recommend watching Captain Marvel first. When you look at the timeline, though, this movie is chronologically somewhere between Captain America: The First Avenger and Iron Man.
