Create Amazing 3D Art With 3Doodler

ByJessica Wellington Leave a Comment September 26, 2018

I received the 3Doodler Start and 3Doodler Create+ to facilitate this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. (This post contains affiliate links.)

My family has talked about getting a 3D printer for years. It isn’t something that we have actually purchased because it is super expensive. Plus, we can’t decide if we would actually use it on a regular basis.

So, I was thrilled to try out the 3Doodler products. If you aren’t familiar with the 3Doodler line of products, let me explain it this way. Imagine a 3D printer in the form of a pen. It operates kind of like a hot glue gun, without the sticky mess. The plastic flows through the pen and onto a surface. It hardens to create a seriously amazing figure or shape. The possibilities are endless!

If you read this site, you know I love to decorate for every holiday! The 3Doodler products are now included in my decorating arsenal. I can create custom decorations in a wide variety of colors for every single holiday! I’m beside myself.

I love the idea of creating custom cookie cutters for the holidays!

I also love the idea of using the 3Doodler Start to enhance what your child is learning at school. Check out this fantastic DIY solar system!

These flashlight stencils are fantastic! You could easily make spooky versions for Halloween.

If you think this is a product just for kids, think again. My husband and I had so much fun using these devices. It was actually a great opportunity to spend time together as a family creating all kinds of innovative things.

Here are the two products I tried for this review:

3Doodler Start

The 3Doodler Start includes a pen, two packs of plastic rods, an activity guide and a micro-USB charging cable. This particular set is designed for children ages six and up.

This pen is perfect for small hands. It is easy for children to operate. My nine-year-old daugher only needed a little help getting started. Once she understood how to use it, she was able to create all kinds of artistic projects.

3Doodler Create+

The 3Doodler Create+ includes a pen, 15 color rods and 75 refills, power adaptor, maintenance tools, quick start guide and 5 step-by-step projects. This version of the 3Doodler is for adults. If you want to create intricate art work, this is the model for you.

Regardless of the model, you can make fun three-dimensional shapes with any of the 3Doodler products. We created a fish, flower, shoes for a Barbie and two decorated paper clips.

The flower and fish are 3D shapes! You can actually create it on paper and hold it in your hand.

We plan on making a lot more decorated paper clips in the future. Also, it was really simple to make shoes for Barbie. We literally used the pen and built the shoe on top of Barbie’s foot. Once I gain more practice, I plan on doing more intricate designs.

After using both models, I have a few tips. First, it is important to draw in a slow manner. If you are a little patient, it is much easier to create shapes. If you are attaching the shape to a paperclip or something else, use a little extra plastic to secure it to the item. You can create the shape separately and attach it later. Finally, have the extra rods ready to go. For example, if you are making a big blue shape, make sure the blue rods are nearby for easier access.

I think both of these 3Doodler products are fantastic. I would easily buy these for gifts for friends and family. Not only are they a ton of fun, they encourage everyone to think in a creative and artistic manner.
