I received Masterpiece: Little Women to facilitate this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Little Women is a beloved family classic. Written in 1868, by Louisa May Alcott, it is a treasured story about four sisters. Thanks to PBS, you can enjoy the latest production of this historic book. Masterpiece: Little Women is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital HD.

Join the March sisters as they navigate life at home. While their father is away at war, they have to mature into adulthood. Their mother, Marmee, is a steadfast figure in their lives and a constant source of encouragement and comfort.

The four girls embark on a journey through sibling rivalry, first love, loss and marriage. Of course, this film would not be complete without the boy next door, Laurie Laurence, cranky Aunt March and benevolent Mr. Laurence.

This coming-of-age story is one tale that has surpassed the test of time. The issues featured in this film are still relevant today.

According to Heidi Thomas, writer and executive producer, “Its [Little Women] humanity, humor, and tenderness never date, and as a study of love, grief, and growing up it has no equal. There could be no better time to revisit the story of a family striving for happiness in an uncertain world.”

The cast features Emily Watson, Michael Gambon, Angela Lansbury, Maya Hawke, Willa Fitzgerald, Annes Elwy, Kathryn Newton, Jonah Hauer-King, Dylan Baker, Julian Morris and Mark Stanley.

I love Masterpiece and was thrilled to watch the latest version of one of my very favorite books. This film is true to the classic tale. I loved watching the March sisters grow up. This film does a great job of portraying the difficult issues women faced during that time period.

The retelling of this story transports viewers to the March household. Even if you are familiar with the story, it will be as though you are seeing it for the first time. Masterpiece: Little Women is a film that you can enjoy time and again.
