meatball skewer hero

We are so excited that it’s almost summer. I can’t wait to enjoy warm weather activities like barbecues, swimming and block parties.

My family also loves to eat outside. It can add a little bit of fun to an otherwise ordinary day. Whenever I’m preparing a meal to be served outdoors, I like to keep things simple and delicious.

During my last trip to H-E-B, I picked up all of the supplies for our outdoor meal. My daughter is always enthusiastic about going to H-E-B for groceries. She loves Buddy Bucks and has so much fun collecting the point stickers for prizes.

As a Mom, I’m always looking for quality groceries that still taste delicious, which is why I look forward to shopping at H-E-B.

While I was in the refrigerated foods section, I noticed the Aidells® Italian Style Meatballs with Mozzarella and Garlic & Basil lunch meat.

I found the meatballs in the prepared meals section and the lunch meat near the cheese.

Aidells at HEB

I was happy to notice that Aidells® is all natural and doesn’t contain any artificial ingredients. Plus, I love that the products contain real hand-picked ingredients with chef-inspired authentic flavors.

Since we were going to eat outside, I decided to make a meal that could be eaten without utensils. Plus, I thought it would make our meal a lot more entertaining.

I was pleased to learn that H-E-B currently has a coupon for these products on their Web site. I visited H-E-B online and searched for Aidells® to find the specific coupon page.

For the skewers, I paired the meatballs with mozzarella cheese, green peppers and parmesan garlic waffle chunks. The waffles added a great texture and flavor to the skewer.

The meatballs taste great by themselves. However, to add flavor to the rest of the ingredients, you can pair them with a delicious tomato basil dipping sauce.

Tomato Basil Dipping Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 15 oz. cans tomato sauce
  • 2 6 oz. cans tomato paste plus two cans water
  • 4 cloves of garlic minced
  • 2 basil leaves chopped
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ cup powdered Parmesan cheese
  • 1 Tbsp + 1 tsp sugar

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a pot then add garlic.
  2. Cook briefly and then add the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Cover and let simmer on the stove for 15-20 minutes.

These skewers are so much fun! To add to the food offerings, I also created a really quick appetizer to go with our meal.

I simply cut a string cheese in half, wrapped it with a piece of garlic and basil lunch meat and topped with a mini tomato and a toothpick.
